Best dawn to photograph the Avebury stones?

Roy and I walked up to the stones before breakfast on Sunday and the mist was just lifting off the field, the most beautiful thing you ever saw. I took a few photos but my little camera doesnt do it justice. For those who know, when is the best light? We are early risers and dont mind the cold. Anne (and Roy, who carries the flask).

oh I'd love to know this too. Moved down from Reading last year and I keep meaning to get up there at dawn but never quite manage it. Is the autumn mist better than summer, or is that just me being romantic about it

We moored at Honeystreet one September and cycled up at first light, well worth the early alarm! Get there before the car park fills. Dawn from the West Kennet end looking back is gorgeous if youre quick, before the coaches.

Thank you both. Dave you must just do it, set the alarm and go. Roy says October for the mist, when the ground is warmer than the air. We shall look out for you up there.
