Locked out of the Soldier's Grave

Roy and I have always taken the dog up to the Soldier's Grave, the old barrow on the down past the wood, every spring since we married. This year there is a new steel gate across the bridleway and a sign, private, no public right of way, where there has been a right of way the whole forty years we have walked it. Who does one even ask? It is only an old hump in a field, but it was our old hump in a field, if you follow me. I felt quite tearful, which is silly.

not silly anne. half the byways i used to cache are gated now. and its always the ones with something old on em, a barrow, a stone, a ruin, never the boring fields. ive given up reading anything into it but i do notice it.

report it to the council anne, blocked right of way, theyll make em put a stile in at the least, you dont have to just swallow it. landowners chance their arm closing paths all the time, banking on folk being too polite to kick up. kick up.
